Benefits of a Differential Service

The differential is part of your vehicle's drivetrain, located between the drive wheels of your vehicle. It works in conjunction with your transmission to supply power from the engine to the axle that turns your wheels allowing you to move forward. The differential also allows you to turn and have the wheels turn at different speeds to ensure you can maintain traction at any speed. (Most 4-wheel drive vehicles have both a front and rear differential) The differential gears are lubricated with a fluid that carries away heat which ensures a low operating temperature. However over time, these fluids will break down and once this happens the chances of overheating this system increase. If this service is avoided the differential gears can also start to grind together causing expensive damage. By regularly servicing the differential and its components you will:

  •  Maintain temperatures – Regulates buildup and problems caused by overheating
  •  Ensure proper turning and traction – Ensuring a smooth ride
  •  Avoid untimely wear – Reducing the chances of costly repairs
